Emerging Media - Week 5

Timeline: 10/6-10/12 create chart/ clean up design... still working on this 10/13-10/19 print charts poster or booklet 10/20 install

Here it is!! Starting to shape up.... colors represent who I was with when I reported....

The remainder of this post is how I got to this ^^^^^^ no need to read, just know that I put it mad time to get to this and feel truly pleased with where this is going...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Meeting for class on Friday was very helpful. Sorting out with Josh what data that I collected that was most interesting and should be visualized.

My final categories are:

Are you working?

Where are you?

What are you doing?

Who are you with?

How do you feel?

I spent a loooooonnnnnng time cleaning up my data and tweaking the data. Finally getting somewhere with the sunburst chart at rawgraphs. It's hella ugly right now, but just looking for a general layout and then I will take it into Illustrator and make it nicer looking and use better type. I really like the chart being divided into only two colors because it's about balance and there's only balanced or unbalanced, not room for grey. I like that. Not sure which hierarchy I like best, so I am still making a decision on that.

SUNBURST 1:

BLUE: WORKING

DK PINK: NOT WORKING

(FROM CENTER OUTWARD)

WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

WHO ARE YOU WITH?

HOW ARE YOU FEELING?

SUNBURST 2:

BRIGHT RED: WORKING

BLUE: NOT WORKING

(FROM CENTER OUTWARD)

WHERE ARE YOU?

WHO ARE YOU WITH?

HOW DO YOU FEEL?

SUNBURST 3:

COLORS BASED ON HOW I WAS FEELING

(FROM CENTER OUTWARD)

WHO ARE YOU WITH?

WHERE ARE YOU?

ARE YOU WORKING?

WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

I love the way this key is represented in the middle of the chart....

So after hours and hours of tweaking.... still have to work out colors, type, key and final presentation. I want to make sure working: yes or no is the focus of the data, or the framework for the rest of the data.

SUNBURST 4:

COLORS BASED ON HOW I WAS FEELING

(FROM CENTER OUTWARD)

ARE YOU WORKING?

WHERE ARE YOU?

WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

Ok hour like 10 of working on this today.... feeling honestly - I really don't enjoy these at all... I just really want to do the Dendrogram... the sunburst feel cold and sterile... the Dendrogram feels organic and bursting like a firework! Just needs some color and a good key and I think it'll be lovely! It feels like me and like it would fit in my portfolio. The starburst feels so alien. This data is about my life and the things I love, my family, my work, my data... I feel like it should be organic in form and feel like it's still moving outward.

Ok all, it's almost midnight- I've been working on this for 12 hours! I'm finally on it!!! I simplified my data set to two many expressions that are most important: Was I working or not and what was I doing. The only additional info I will add will be who I was with (that will be added with colors. I got my Dendrogram into Illustrator and I'm tweaking it- but I think I want to really work it tomorrow. Happy to have something simple, beautiful and on the path to being easy to look at and understand.
